  • I started Before the Lord by accident. I was going through one of the hardest trials of my life, and the Lord was speaking to me in extraordinary ways during my quiet time. It was as if He was using this season of suffering to teach me deep truths about His Word, about Himself, and about how to navigate life in this fallen world with Christ at the center. I was so moved by what I was experiencing that I desperately wanted my family, close friends, and loved ones to have the same experience. So I began sending them a daily text — just a few lines sharing what I had learned that morning.

Soon, others asked to be included. The text evolved into an email. The email grew into a mailing list. What began as a heartfelt desire to share what God was doing in my quiet time with those closest to me has expanded into a daily devotional reaching a growing community of believers each morning.

The name Before the Lord captures the heart of this ministry: helping believers live each day with God, under His authority, and for His glory.

At its core, Before the Lord is built on a simple rhythm: learning God's Word, applying it to our lives, allowing it to search our hearts, and fostering lasting change from the inside out. It's personal, transparent, and grounded — never preachy, never abstract, always aimed at the Christ follower who wants to grow. More than a devotional, it's a habit that can become a way of life.

Before the Lord is now available as a daily email devotional and a podcast — with a 365-day devotional book in the works. But the daily email remains the heartbeat of the ministry.

  • Before the Lord is for any Christian seeking to deepen their relationship with the Lord — whether you've been walking with Him for decades or you're just beginning to take your faith seriously. It's for the believer who feels a gap between where they are and where they want to be, and who is looking for something that meets them in that gap every single day.

It's for the parent trying to model faith for their children, the professional who wants to carry Christ into the workplace, the person sitting in the pew on Sunday wondering why the rest of the week feels so disconnected, the new believer hungry for more, and the seasoned saint who knows there's always more to discover.

It's also meant to be shared. One of the greatest joys of this ministry is when a reader passes a devotional along to a friend, a family member, or someone who is struggling. Before the Lord was never meant to stay in your inbox — it was meant to be paid forward.

It's not written for the perfect Christian. It's written for the faithful one — the one who keeps showing up, keeps seeking, and continues to believe that God has more in store for them. If that's you, Before the Lord was written with you in mind.

  • Before the Lord delivers a Scripture-based devotional to your inbox every weekday morning at 5:00 AM — providing a focused, intentional way to begin each day before the noise starts. Each one is 400 to 650 words — enough to be meaningful, brief enough to fit into your morning. Throughout the year, the devotionals explore the topics most important to the Christian walk: contentment, integrity, suffering, spiritual disciplines, gossip, the power of the tongue, trusting God's timing, prayer, parenting, identity in Christ, repentance, and what it means to live in a manner worthy of the Lord. These aren't abstract theological exercises. They are honest conversations about the issues believers actually face.

    Every devotional includes:

Scripture — a specific passage, carefully cited, that anchors the day's reflection.

A Reflection — a personal, real-life unpacking of the passage through stories, relatable examples, and practical theology.

A BIG IDEA — a brief, impactful takeaway that captures the one truth you should carry into your day.

Questions to Ponder — reflective questions that help you internalize the message and examine your own heart.

An Application — a single, actionable step you can take in the next few days to put the reading into practice.

  • Before the Lord isn't just something you read — it's something you live. When you embrace this daily rhythm, you'll gain more than just head knowledge. You'll walk away with a transformed heart.

You'll develop a deeper, more personal understanding of Scripture — not just what it says, but how it applies to your daily life. You'll build a consistent habit of meeting with the Lord that feels natural and genuine. You'll find yourself thinking differently throughout the day — carrying a BIG IDEA into a conversation, a meeting, a challenging moment, or a peaceful one. Some devotionals will bring comfort, others will bring conviction, and many will do both — but each one ends with a practical application that solidifies what you've learned into real change, helping you become a little more like Christ today than you were yesterday.

Most of all, you'll experience God more — His love, His patience, His grace, His strength — in the normal routines of your daily life. Over time, you'll notice something harder to measure but impossible to ignore: a life that is increasingly lived before the Lord — with God, under His authority, and for His glory.
